March Updates + Introducing Free Production Strategy Sessions

I’m writing this month’s update still riding the high from the Peawees 30th anniversary show, which took place last Saturday in La Spezia. It was a special night, with all the former members joining the band on stage and retracing their entire history.

Many of them don’t play live very often anymore, and it was amazing to see them get emotional on stage and give it everything they had. They held their own against the current lineup, which plays dozens and dozens of shows every year all over the world. Chapeau! Nights like this are a great reminder of why we do this in the first place: definitely not for the money or platinum records, but for experiences that feel this real and meaningful.

At the beginning of the month, I started working on the new record by Loyal Cheaters. We spent five days at Turangalila in Cernusco Lombardone, where we laid down solid foundations for five tracks on the album.

In the weeks leading up to the session, I had already gone through several demos and had a lot of back-and-forth with the band, sharing ideas on how to further develop the songs. That prep work made a huge difference: we walked into the studio with a clear direction and were able to focus right away on tracking and dialing in the right sounds for each song.

That’s why I keep believing more and more in the value of pre-production. Showing up prepared means fewer surprises, better focus, and no rushed decisions under pressure—just a more efficient and creative recording process overall.

As for this month’s releases: the Peawees dropped their cover of “Baby, I’m in the Mood for You” by Bob Dylan, along with a new version of “Bleeding for You” (Strepitoso Session). I recorded and mixed both tracks, and they’re part of the upcoming compilation of rarities and unreleased material, More Scraps, due out in April.

Also out this month is Lazy Hearts, the new EP by Melmacs, which I mixed entirely, as well as the new single “Rollercoaster” by Angel Names, for which I handled the recording.

Wrapping things up, Radio Days released their new single “I Won’t Give Up.” On this one, I recorded drums and bass, and also took care of the mix.

Scrivo l’aggiornamento di questo mese sull’onda dell’entusiasmo per la serata che ha celebrato i 30 anni dei Peawees, svoltasi sabato scorso a La Spezia. È stato un evento davvero speciale, durante il quale si sono alternati sul palco tutti gli ex membri della band, ripercorrendone l’intera carriera.

Molti di loro suonano ormai di rado ed è stato bellissimo vederli emozionarsi sul palco e dare il massimo: sono riusciti a tenere testa alla formazione attuale, che macina decine e decine di concerti ogni anno in tutto il mondo. Chapeau! Momenti come questo mi ricordano perché facciamo tutto questo: sicuramente non per i soldi o per i dischi di platino, ma per esperienze così autentiche e significative.

A inizio mese ho cominciato a lavorare al nuovo disco dei Loyal Cheaters. Abbiamo trascorso cinque giorni al Turangalila di Cernusco Lombardone, durante i quali siamo riusciti a gettare solide basi per cinque brani del disco.

Nelle settimane precedenti avevo già ascoltato diverse demo e mi ero confrontato spesso con la band, dando alcuni suggerimenti su come i brani potessero essere ulteriormente sviluppati. Questo lavoro preliminare ci ha permesso di arrivare in studio con le idee molto chiare e di concentrare fin da subito le nostre energie sulle registrazioni e sulla scelta degli strumenti più adatti per ogni brano.

Per questo motivo credo sempre di più nell’importanza della preproduzione: arrivare in studio preparati significa evitare imprevisti e potersi concentrare meglio sulla registrazione, senza prendere decisioni di fretta o sotto pressione e senza sprecare energie mentali preziose.

Proprio partendo da questa idea, mi sono chiesto come poter aiutare concretamente le band a fare questo step nel modo migliore. Parlando un po’ delle uscite di questo mese a cui ho lavorato: i Peawees hanno pubblicato la loro cover di “Baby, I’m in the Mood for You” di Bob Dylan, insieme a una nuova versione di “Bleeding for You” (Strepitoso Session). Entrambi i brani, che ho registrato e mixato, anticipano la nuova compilation di inediti e rarità “More Scraps”, in arrivo ad aprile.

A chiudere il mese, il nuovo singolo dei Radio Days, “I Won’t Give Up”: in questo caso ho registrato batterie e bassi, oltre a curarne il mix.
